Vintage 1969 GMC Bus Conversion Ep 1

We’re going to take a look at the very first stages of this GMC bus conversion. The city bus has been emptied and the Leisure Coachworks teams have done the initial markup.

A bus conversion, or any RV conversion, needs careful planning every step of the way. Every inch matters and creating custom furnishings that match the customer’s vision means starting with the fundamentals—designing the basic layout.

So what is that yellow tape? That tells us, and the customer, where everything is going to go in the final RV conversion of this vintage bus.

Marking out exactly where benches, booths, bathrooms, and bedrooms will be located gives the customer and the designers a feel for how the space will be used. Dimensions for open areas are determined, as is the placement of any requested features.

This first step in the bus conversion process guides what comes next—the complete mock-up. We love showing you the very beginning of this project so you can follow along with us every step of the way.

Following the guidelines of the yellow tape design, we’ll build a wooden mock-up for an even more thorough look at the basic design concepts for this vintage bus.
