Vintage 1969 GMC Bus Conversion | How To Build Custom Storage | EP. 2

This vintage ’69 GMC bus conversion is just getting started. We’ve finished the interior mock-up and are heading into the creation of storage.

Before we get started, let’s take a look at this amazing vintage bus. This GMC rode the streets back in 1969 and has all the classic features of an inner-city bus of the era. The original colors, trim, and functionality are all going to get a modern makeover.

When we do vintage RV conversions, we make sure to retain the vintage feel while adding great functionality and style to match the customer’s vision. We love the way this bus looks and we’re excited about the possibilities.

Bus Conversion: Adding Exterior Compartments

This is a great opportunity to show you how we blend our designs for amazing interiors with the practical necessities that make the vehicle functional. Because this bus didn’t have the exterior compartments the customer wanted, it was time to build.

The enormous heater in this ’69 bus came out and gave us a lot of space for storage. We moved the air tanks to the front and made sure that the space had proper weight distribution front to back and side to side.

Adding slide-out battery compartments allows easy access. We placed temporary batteries of the correct size to make sure everything fit and functioned properly.

When we do a bus conversion, especially on a vintage bus, our experts are very particular about making sure the new components perfectly match the old. These new exterior compartments will look exactly like the original aluminum.

A big benefit of getting under this vintage bus to create storage was accessing the old air bags. They were in desperate need of replacement so that the final RV conversion will ride as smooth as silk.
