Build On The Go! Custom RV Interior Build Plan

Show Us What You Want

Today we’re showing you a custom RV interior from the very beginning. The customers drove to Leisure Coachworks from Northern California and they tell you why they brought their motorhome to Jon for a custom makeover.

These customers are just like you—they like to travel in their RV because it has the comforts of home. They like having their own bed, shower, and all the amenities they love in their Class A motorhome with slide outs.

They decided, however, that the interior wasn’t meeting their needs. They had a couch that they didn’t use, a dinette they didn’t like, and they needed to add a workspace. They worked directly with Jon, exploring all the options to upgrade their RV interior into the home on wheels they need.

Having done many RV remodels, Jon has the expertise to make their vision fit into their available space. He helped these customers with color palettes, floor plans, storage, and much more.

What they discovered is that they could have more space than they imagined, for both work and relaxation. They were glad they didn’t try a DIY RV remodel and found a real expert to give them the motorhome interior of their dreams.

Exploring the Mock-Up

After hearing from the customers, Jon takes us on a tour of the newly mocked-up space. We start at the very front of the vehicle, where the Leisure Coachworks team will reupholster the captain’s chairs to complement the rest of the RV interior.

Then we get to the heart of the project.

One of the slide-outs used to have benches and a dinette. The customer would prefer a longer couch with more seating and a table that can be removed.

The team went through several different mock-ups before landing on a plan with enough depth, storage, and the expanded seating space the customer wanted. Mock-ups are important because they allow the customer to better imagine their new space and make changes before anything is permanent.

In this case, they decided that the L-shape they originally envisioned for the seating area didn’t fit the flow they imagined. Jon and the team made a new mock-up of a straight seating area that worked much better for their RV lifestyle.

The slide out will have more space for watching TV and other recreation without compromising the workspace.

For that workspace, the customer originally thought they would need a small triangle desk in a corner. They had seen that type of floor plan in other RV interiors. But John had a different idea.

He realized that by removing a surface that was going unused, he could make space for a full-sized desk. It will have ample storage, space for all the necessary office equipment, and even a footrest to make it as comfortable as possible.

As Jon worked with the customers, he discovered that there were other cosmetic changes they wanted to make. The team will be putting in new valances to replace the outdated curtains and match the new RV interior design.

The RV remodel will also include removing a counter, replacing the cooktop, and replacing the flooring. In the rear of the coach, the team will replace the plastic in the shower area with a solid surface. They’ll use the same surface to replace the sink and vanity top.

There’s some underutilized space in the bathroom that will allow for an expanded shower area. The bathroom floor also needs to be refreshed. There is a spot with a raised ridge that will be transformed into a nice, flat floor.

When the RV interior remodel is finished, the customers will have the motorhome of their dreams. It will make better use of their slide-outs with a generous workspace and more convenient seating.

Their home on wheels will also have a design refresh, eliminating the outdated décor. In its place will be a fresh, modern new look that perfectly complements every other element of the coach.

With every RV remodel, Jon and the Leisure Coachworks team make sure that every element looks like it was always meant to be that way. These customers enjoyed the planning process with Jon and are excited to see their finished RV interior.

Next time Jon will show us the project while it’s underway. We’ll see how the mock-up is turning into a refreshed, remodeled space that has everything these customers need to live their best RV life.
