Welcome back to Leisure Coachworks RV videos! This time we have something different to share: a total interior remodel of a 2000 Renegade Toterhome.
Toterhome is the combination word used to describe an RV that serves as both a motorhome and a tow vehicle. They are built on heavy-duty truck chassis to haul big trailers. This particular toterhome is pretty dated and worn out inside.
Instead of getting rid of the Renegade in favor of a new vehicle, this customer wants us to breathe new life into their reliable, high-quality rig.
A lot of the RV interior components have already been removed. You can see what the appliances, counters, cabinets, flooring, and upholstery used to look like as Jon walks us through the partial demo.
The team is going to keep and update the oak used for the toterhome’s cabinets and walls. It’s great wood that just needs a new finish. It will be sanded and stained in a neutral grey.
The color palette in this toterhome was burgundy everything, from flooring to upholstery to trim. The plan is to replace the outdated look with shades of grey to go with the new woodwork. The space will look brighter and feel bigger when the main colors are lighter and more neutral.
With the old seating removed, we can see where new Euro chairs will go, opening up the living space. The fabric on those chairs will match the trim, tying the design together.
Where there used to be two booths and a table, there will be one long booth in the new RV interior design. This opens up the living space even more, giving it a spacious but still cozy feel.
That booth has been mocked up so the team can configure the water tanks that will fit underneath. This change needs to be done with care to make sure the vehicle has as much water as possible.
All of the appliances and fixtures in this toterhome were outdated and need replacing. The new refrigerator, microwave, sink, and toilet will be more efficient, functional, and attractive than the old models.
The team will also replace the old CRT TV with a new flat screen. We’ve talked before about cutting down unnecessary weight to make your RV more eco-friendly. The new flat panel will be far lighter than the big old TV and have a bigger viewing screen.
Other worn components will also be replaced with more modern equivalents. They need a new air conditioner, old light fixtures will be replaced with efficient, long-lasting, lightweight Leisure LED lighting, and the old fan will be replaced with a new, high-quality model.
This RV remodel is all about combining the best of the old with the best of the new. Jon shows us everything that has come out of the toterhome. From old appliances and burgundy furnishings that are going away to oak cabinet doors and trim that will be sanded and stained for reuse.
The next time we see the Renegade toterhome, it will be lighter, brighter, and have a whole new look and feel. We’re excited about this RV remodel and bringing new life to an older vehicle. The customer gets to keep their reliable rig and the team gets to dig into the challenge of making this RV interior look better than when it rolled off the assembly line.
