In this tour, Jon Goldstein, president of Leisure Coachworks, walks us through the MCI Bus Conversion RV remodel project. A large build like this bus RV conversion can be a daunting task. Luckily, we have the experience, skills, and customer service to make your RV dreams a reality.
We start off at the front of the bus, showing us the exterior, which is meticulously sanded, shaped and primed. As a result, a final perfect paint job. At the back of this mid-90’s MCI motorhome restoration, the rear exterior grill is removed for sand, prep and paint.
The next steps for this RV remodel are the three awnings, the front headlights, changing out the LED tail lights, and picking out that custom green that the customer can’t live without.
Early stages of the MCI Bus Conversion
At Leisure Coachworks we go beyond what’s on paper. We use what we call ‘stick and panel’. Which are temporary placeholders for the 2D design in a 3 dimensional space. This method gives us a good grasp on how a design feels and functions. This early stage of the RV build determines tank placement. As a result, it indicates the best plumbing routes.
It allows us to test everything, see what works and doesn’t, and make adjustments if needed. This in turn saves us time, which saves the customer money.
In the back bedroom the stick and panel is set up. To the right there is a desk, and on either side of the bed are night stands. Above the bed is a large overhead for storage. The bed lifts up for even more storage. And because of the custom millwork, it will provide access to the engine if repairs ever need to be done.
He highlights spots for a stacked washer/dryer, closet, drawers, sink, vanity, overhead cabinet, big walk-in shower, fully tiled floor and Corian solid surface walls.
In an RV renovation, space is at a limit. If we move a wall a couple of inches, or set the toilet just right, the result is a bathroom that feels nice and spacious.
There will be a nice big pantry with doors and drawers, a coffee bar, a full size residential refrigerator, electric cooktop, microwave, full-size sink, and built-in dishwasher. Opposite is a dinette that converts to a bed. Throughout the coach is overhead storage and clear views of all the windows.
Custom RV build
One of the unique requests that the customer wanted was the ability to eat, sleep and sit 6-10 people. We do this with long seating areas and spacious tabletops for dining. This entire dining area converts to beds.
He shows us what a mid-90s MCI bus conversion cockpit looks like. Jon points out the front overhead compartments with room for modern features like side view cameras, built in DVR, and entertainment systems.
At Leisure Coachworks, our RV service, repair and upgrades, ranges from basic maintenance to complete RV restoration. This includes all makes, models and types.
