Building A Custom RV Before Burning Man 2024

2015 Thor Motor Coach Palazzo Series Motorhome RV

Most of the big custom RV remodels we do at Leisure Coachworks take a lot of time. We have over 30 motorhomes, buses, and travel trailers in the shop right now, all at various stages of their renovations.

But sometimes, a job comes in that needs a lot of work and a quick turnover. That’s when our skilled, experienced team kicks it into overdrive to create the home on wheels of the customer’s dreams.

In this case, we’re taking a tour of a big, Class A motorhome that went to Burning Man last year. As much as the customer enjoyed the experience, the coach was not quite suited to the task. So the team is pushing it to the front of the queue to get it ready for this year’s trip.

This job begins on the RV exterior. The slide-out room is stuck open. That will be taken care of in the middle of the remodel. There will also be a new 360-degree exterior camera. This setup allows for both monitoring the road and security at Burning Man.

The motorhome will also get improved, upgraded solar panels and a custom awning, set up for entertaining in the dusty environment.

RV Interior Upgrades and Renovations

The team is still in the planning stages for the RV interior remodel. Jon shows us what’s there now and details a few of the ideas they’re working on with the customer.

In the front of the coach, there is currently bench seating. That may come out and make way for convertible seating that offers extra sleeping space. The front bathroom is probably going to lose its shower to make more space in the living area.

The back bedroom will see the biggest changes. In addition to adding extra sleeping space to the slide out, this space will be appointed with high-end décor and fixtures.

The goal is to have the space resemble a luxury hotel suite, possibly including a steam shower.

Like every custom RV remodel, the team needs to be conscious of the functionality of every design idea. This coach has engine access beneath the current bed that needs to be preserved in some fashion.

The flooring will also be redone, but not before that broken slide-out is fixed. The bedroom closet and laundry may stay. It depends on changes to the kitchen.

RV Kitchen Remodel

The kitchen, like the rest of the living area, is in for a big change. In addition to a larger refrigerator, the kitchen will get a new counter layout to accommodate a new gas cooktop, a breakfast bar, and new booth seating.

RV Electronics Upgrades

This Class A motorhome is a 2015 model and it’s going to get new smart TVs throughout. The team has a lot of experience with TV upgrades, and they will make sure everything is practical, functional, and looks fantastic.

An updated sound system will complete the electronics upgrade.

The color palette for this project is undecided. The customer is leaning toward dark reds and greens and a Shogun-type theme. That means the current valances and other decorative touches will need to be replaced.

A pull-down bed near the captain’s chairs will get enhanced privacy and the chairs will get a new look.

Now that we’ve seen the concept for this project, it’s going to be exciting to watch it come to life. Follow us on YouTube and don’t miss an update on this Burning Man RV!
