Can we finish this RV in Time? 2 Weeks Before Burning Man 2024 | Ep4

Welcome back to our custom RV renovation of a Class A motorhome! This rig is headed to Burning Man and needed a lot of work on a tight timeline. This is our fourth installment, so let’s look back at how we began:

  • Episode 1: First looks and preliminary planning
  • Episode 2: Fixing a slide out and touring interior mock-up
  • Episode 3: Progress, inside and out

The team only has two weeks before Burning Man. Jon gives us the lowdown on one of this custom RV’s showcase features: an enormous tent that folds up and stows away when the party’s over.

We’ll also get a look at the progress inside this Class A motorhome, of course!

Custom RV Exterior Tent

It’s hot and sunny at Burning Man. The usual awning with sides is not enough for this custom RV. The goal is to create a big, inviting shaded area that is also easy to put up and take down. That’s tricky because these poles are 12 feet long.

There won’t be a single component on this tent that is not custom, even the tent fabric will be sown to the precise specifications of the frame. There will be screened windows to uncover and catch a breeze from outside. Jon shows us the remarkable detail of how this exterior living space was designed and created right in our full-service shop.

Remarkably, not only does this tent fold down for driving, but it also has adjustable feet for the uneven surfaces at Burning Man. The whole structure has extra support so it can brave the rugged, windy environment.

A big Class A motorhome with a lot of custom elements needs a lot of power. Jon shows us the structure the team built to hold the new, larger generator and make it accessible for service.

He also shows us other inventive entertainment features on the exterior of this motorhome, including the progress on the roof deck. You won’t find anything like this from the factory, but it will all look like it was always meant to be this way.

Leisure Coachworks has a lot of experience with custom RV projects and exterior upgrades. This is a complex project and it’s going to be amazing.

Custom RV Interior Progress

Jon gives us a look at some of the gorgeous alder wood interior framing. The wood is backed with lightweight support structures for strength and durability. We also get a look at the main ceiling panels. This slatted design element is beautifully unique and pulls together all of the Japanese theme elements of this custom RV. The ceiling will even have backlighting to make the interior glow and the design pop.

The theme continues with a screen to stretch across the front bunk area. It will be painted with a cherry blossom scene and give the occupants some privacy.

We get a look at the structural supports that hold custom RV elements safely in place. This rig is going to look great for years to come. Multiple stain colors on the alder finishes add to the Japanese theme of the entire build.

The rear bunks and steam shower are underway. The aluminum framing and extra supports are in place to add strength for the roof deck. You won’t believe the incredible detail and craftsmanship the team is bringing to this custom RV. Everyone is hard at work getting it finished by the deadline.
