Can You Get Bigger Windows in an RV? | Kitchen Remodel Ep3

Remodeling an RV is like giving your home on wheels a whole new personality, and that’s exactly what happened with a 2015 Fleetwood Discovery.

It all kicked off with a complete kitchen makeover. But that soon turned into a full-blown renovation that touched almost every corner of the RV.

First thing’s first, the gas features were out. Instead of sticking with gas, a hydronic water heating system was brought in to help keep things in the RV warm and toasty. This switch not only made the RV safer but also more efficient throughout. You see, the original setup had some issues with heat escaping and cold drafts sneaking in, which is why we decided to go all out with insulation.

To that end, we added three extra layers of foam board insulation, which is really effective at making sure the heat stays inside the RV and the chill outside. It really made a world of difference by turning the RV into a cozy haven no matter where it’s parked.

One of the biggest upgrades, however, has been swapping out the older windows for much larger ones. As you can imagine, bigger windows means more natural light entering the RV and better views (which totally transforms the vibe of the RV alone), but it also means that a lot of heat can escape.

This is precisely why we worked so diligently at beefing up the insulation elsewhere throughout the RV with those foam boards. We also over-insulated the space around the new windows, which helps to keep the interior of the RV bright and airy but without losing any of that cozy warmth.

It’s all about finding that perfect balance, and this RV nailed it.

The office space got a clever makeover too. It’s not just an office; it can also turn into bunk beds so guests or family members can have a place to sleep. The new windows in the office helped to brighten up the workspace while also making the bunk area feel more inviting. Plus, the doors leading to this space have also been over-insulated, which will help to make sure the office stays quiet and free from outside noise.

The kitchen also saw some thoughtful updates. A pantry was added for extra storage, along with a smaller refrigerator to save space without compromising on functionality. The kitchen counter itself got a complete makeover too, and it features a new dishwasher and sink for added convenience. Plus, there’s a sliding pantry space now, which will make it super easy to access stored items without taking up too much extra room. These tweaks make the kitchen not just more efficient but also a joy to use, perfect for whipping up meals on the go.

The bedroom didn’t get left behind either. A much larger window was installed on the wall in front of the bed, which means more light and better views. To fit this new window, the dresser had to come out, and the wall was carefully cut back to add a door. This effectively made the bedroom feel more open and accessible.

It’s amazing how a few changes like these can make such a big difference in how the room feels.

All these changes come together to create an RV that’s not only stunning with its large windows but also incredibly well-insulated. This means the interior stays comfortable and energy-efficient no matter what the weather’s like outside.

So what’s the key takeaway here? Well, if you’ve been wondering whether you can get bigger windows in an RV without sacrificing warmth or energy efficiency, the answer is yes. From swapping out windows to adding several layers of insulation and upgrading the other rooms, it’s been all about creating a space that truly feels like home.
