Turning This RV Into a Gourmet Kitchen on Wheels! | Ep2

Oh, how we love touring an RV upgrade in progress! The last time we visited this 2014 Fleetwood Discovery Jon showed us how it looked when it came into our full-service RV shop.

Watch the first video to see the original kitchen, which the customer wanted to fully remodel, as well as the rest of the vehicle. They couldn’t find what they were looking for in a new motorhome so it was time to get to work creating a custom kitchen.

In this video, we’re getting a look at how the magic happens. The Leisure Coachworks team has extensive experience with custom RV interior upgrades and this is turning into a great project. The team will use their creativity and training to make the kind of changes that turn a motorhome into a perfect home on wheels.

Jon starts with a look at the custom RV kitchen, but we can tell right away that this project has grown. The kitchen floorplan is being adjusted, with a streamlined booth and a pull-out counter. The appliances are moving, and there will be a new window, a pop-up TV, and a new residential refrigerator. This kitchen will even have a fireplace.

And now we learn about the new feature being installed throughout the vehicle. This Class A motorhome is going to stop using propane. The new system is an Aqua-Hot hydronic hot water heating system. It’s just as amazing as it sounds.

This is a diesel-fueled system that heats water and sends it to radiators to provide heat throughout the vehicle. The LCW technicians had to extensively restructure the motorhome to put this brand-new system in place. Jon shows us where the Aqua-Hot is located, as well as how the wiring needs to be rerouted and components adjusted to install radiators.

The new system is a big change for this RV, and once the project is done it will be completely hidden away. We love to get a look at all the details that go into reconfiguring a motorhome for a complete change of a major functional component. The team will install radiators throughout the vehicle, requiring rewiring in every space.

An extra-cool addition? The Aqua-Hot system can be configured to pre-heat the engine for those cold days at the campground.

Jon didn’t forget about the rest of the upgrades for this Fleetwood Discovery. The new heating system has left some open spaces. The area that used to contain the water heater is now open. We know that every square inch counts in a custom RV, so the team will make good use of any newly usable locations. Jon even shows us the outside, so we can see how the new heating system affects every part of the vehicle.

There is also currently a set of bunks in the Fleetwood. They will become a convertible workspace. There will be a desk and a bed in this multifunctional space, with an easy transition from one to the other.

One key to a great custom RV is creating components that have more than one use. When space is limited, the team needs to be innovative and precise, designing everything to fit perfectly, function smoothly, and look like it was always meant to be that way.

Join us next time to see more progress on this custom Fleetwood RV. So far, the changes are practical. We’re looking forward to seeing the design come together with perfectly balanced form and function. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and never miss a video from our talented Leisure Coachworks team.
