Well, folks, what started as an RV kitchen remodel has turned into an incredible RV renovation project! Let’s take a look at our previous episodes.
- In Episode One, we talked about the kitchen. The customer wanted it to be more functional for both cooking and dining.
- Episode Two saw the project expand as the team replaced all propane heating in this big 2015 Fleetwood Discovery with an Aqua-Hot hydronic system.
- In Episode Three the project got much bigger, with plans for larger windows, added insulation, and further changes to the bedroom, bathroom, and office areas.
Now that the project has grown into a full RV remodel, Jon is giving us a tour to update the team’s progress. The first thing you’ll notice is that this motorhome looks pretty empty! And for good reason: new insulation. Everything in the kitchen had to be removed to insulate the walls for maximum heat and cooling retention.
The office area will double as a sleeping space. The foldable bunks are in the works and the team is getting ready to install custom doors and insulation to keep this area as quiet as possible while still allowing the slide-out to function properly.
As we move on, we see that a new element has entered the project! The team is completely remodeling the bathroom. They’re building a new shower, changing the height of the toilet, and making the most of this oddly shaped space. The tile floor needs to be carefully chipped out and reconfigured in this room as well.
The bedroom insulation is underway and the team is working on a plan for a big window over the bed and a new door to the outside. There will also be a new dresser with drawers, a fireplace, and a TV. This room will have insulation in both the walls and floor to prevent heat from the engine from entering the space.
This Fleetwood has a long slide out with three distinct sections. Already completed in all three is the ceiling, with new lighting and vinyl that will tie into the overall design of the coach. In addition to the kitchen and office sections, there is a seating area. Here is where the team had to pivot.
They had configured the space for a sofa on one side but now the design is changing. The booth is going on the other side so the preliminary work will either be modified or scrapped and re-started.
This is part of the process with custom RV work. Being flexible and accommodating shifting priorities is how Leisure Coachworks makes sure that every customer has a vehicle that makes them happy when they hit the road.
The end product will meet the needs of the customer and look like it was always meant to be exactly that way. Function needs to meet design to create comfortable, practical spaces that use every inch of space wisely and feel like home.
Projects like this Fleetwood Discovery RV remodel remind us why we love our jobs. Working with a customer to refine their custom RV vision and using our skills and experience to create exactly what they need is the best kind of challenge.
