This vintage teardrop trailer deserved a custom remodel that reflected its roots and its owner’s retro style. It needed a complete overhaul to become the fun, functional camper they imagined.
When it arrived at Leisure Coachworks, this teardrop trailer was classic silver with a spare tire in front and some basic cabinetry in the back. The inside needed lighting, storage, and modern technology upgrades. The exterior needed a new look and modern amenities.
The first RV upgrade this trailer needed was a whole new chassis. The old one was crooked and sat too low to the ground. The new, stronger chassis had space underneath for the spare tire as well as room on the A-frame for the upgraded battery, a built-in propane tank, and a nice big storage tote.
With a new frame all set to go, it was time to hit the gas on this remodel!
The teardrop camper needed to be cleaned and primed for its new BauHaus style paint job. The mattress and interior shelves were removed, as was the workspace in the back. With everything cleaned and ready, the build could begin.
Leisure Coachworks’ designers fitted the interior with new shelves and cabinets and a power roof vent. A new memory foam mattress was put in place with room underneath to store the tabletop that fitted into a slot on the exterior. Adjustable LED lights and recessed lighting made the interior inviting and versatile.
The new storage space inside was given a Formica finish in the same colors to be used on the exterior.
The BauHaus colors worked with the vintage teardrop trailer shape and gave it a bright new look.
The interior doors were fitted with a bright yellow Formica overlay and the ceiling was given a soothing cream color.
The modern energy and heating technology on the exterior was made accessible by interior controls and monitoring for solar and propane. Two outlets, one GFCI, and one 12 volt provided plenty of options for the new open shelf area.
With lots of storage and a top-quality roof vent, this interior RV remodel was looking great.
The experts at Leisure Coachworks transformed the back of the teardrop trailer from featureless wooden storage with a basic worktop into a fully functional modern kitchen. Two burners, a sink, a small refrigerator, a heater, and an eight-gallon freshwater tank sat snugly and securely beneath an easy-open overhead. Custom designed and hand-built, the kitchen had plenty of storage and a detachable panel to provide shade.
The new kitchen didn’t leave behind the Bauhaus style. Formica overlays on the cabinets and drawers mirrored the bright colors used in the rest of the design.
The teardrop trailer would not be complete for the customer without the option of a rear bike rack. The designers fit the back with a removable receiver hitch. When not being used to store bikes, it could be removed to make the kitchen more accessible.
The exterior was also equipped with a rooftop solar panel to take this trailer off the grid. Plentiful LED lighting and GFCI outlets allowed for comfortable cooking and eating outside at the detachable table. The original marker lights and turn signals were carefully preserved to maintain the vintage look of this classic teardrop camper.
The exterior paint colors made this camper pop
